Learn About Awards Given

Visit the Awards and Tribute page to see slide shows, images and information about awards for heroism and bravery honored with an installation of the Courage and Faith sculpture. The first award was given to the Rechlitz brothers, of the Milwaukee Fire Department, for their bravery in helping to rescue a young boy from a burning SUV in July of 2009.

“Right Place for the Rescue”

To quote the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, it was the “Right Place for the Rescue” when a birthday wish helped lead two off duty Milwaukee firefighters, John and Joel Rechlitz, to the scene where 3 were saved in an SUV fire in July of 2009. Credit for the rescue also goes to off-duty police officer Lt. Mark Wroblewski, bystanders and neighbors at the scene where they assisted in pulling the mother and trapped children in the SUV, putting themselves at risk.

Our new blog, Courage and Faith is dedicated to such heroes and will be a resource for support links for the families and friends of fallen firefighters and fire victims. Milwaukee Firefighter, King Monaghan will be continuing his mission to discuss ways in which we can make tributes and awards for bravery more memorable with the help of the Courage and Faith Sculpture.
